Skin toning technique is something that can be undertaken by both men and women without any qualms as it is the protective step after gentle, but thorough cleansing of skin as it keeps pores clean, skin healthy and breathing and thus more receptive to ultimate in nourishing care that comes with moisturizing. Statistically, men have closer to fifteen percent more oily skin than women leading to larger pores. Due to this simple fact, men need top skin toners significantly more than women. Larger pores and oilier skin means their skin gets dirtier and requires more frequent deep cleansing and timely toning to look fresh and healthy.

Keeping in tune with the modern day philosophy, it has been found that the skin toning products should be as chemical-free as possible and use as much natural ingredients as possible. The fact is it is quite easy to learn natural skin toning techniques. If you have dry or sensitive skin you must avoid use of soaps with deodorizing agents. Soaps that produce a lot of lather are manufactured with harsh ingredients and are quite likely to leave a film of detergents on your skin. Presence of this film can render the whole exercise of natural skin toning useless.

Tips for Skin Toning

Astringent lotions should be used with a piece of cotton wool. In cases of skin that is chapped, pat it on with a brisk slapping movement.

People with normal skin do not need to use harsh astringents. For such skin types, a very delicate and light preparation for skin toning will suffice. It is preferable to use a Rose water based product.

In case of dry skin, it is better to dilute rose water with mineral water prior to applying it gently with the help of cotton. This will provide essential moisture to the dry skin.

For combination skin, light toning lotion should be used all over the face, except for the eye area. This should be followed with astringent on the greasy areas with cotton wool. Never let the astringent spill over the dry cheek and eye areas.

Skin toning for oily skin requires astringent lotion which should be applied on areas that are deemed to be the oiliest, like sides of nose, forehead and outer cheeks.

For normal to dry skin, skin can be refreshed by mixing 2 parts of rose water with one part of witch hazel. Be sure to use cotton wool for application.

Over exposure to sun causes sunburn. In order to remedy such a situation, mash 4-5 strawberries and apply the paste on affected areas. Leave it on till it dries and then was off with cool water.

Rose contains natural chemicals that have great toning properties. Usually rose water is available off the shelf. But if you want to make your own, all you need to do is mix 1 tablespoon rose oil with 2 ¼ litres of purified water. Bottle it and store in the refrigerator.

Vitamin E oil and wheat oil are very effective for dry skin.

Rub a piece of potato over the face and neck and wash off after 15 minutes. This is very effective for oily skin, and can be used for dry skin with a moisturizer.
