Facial Massage – Steps of Facial Massage

Massage is considered as the oldest and simplest form of healing pain and toning the body by stimulating blood circulation. Some benefits of massages are healing, reassuring, soothing, relaxing, improves breathing and steady blood circulation. Regular massage can prevent unnecessary strain, tension etc. M assage has the potential to restore an individual physically, mentally and spiritually.

The face is naturally oilier than other parts of the body. So, if the massage receiver has dry skin, then only it is required to add some oil at the time of massage, otherwise it is not required. To get maximum benefit out of massage, it is necessary to create a comfortable environment. By listening to a soft music and sitting on a comfortable chair, we can easily create such comfortable environment.

Facial Massage should always commence on a clean face. Oil or any other suitable massage cream can be used over the face and the masseur by his/her fingertips should gently rotate oil/cream on the face who is taking facial massage. As per requirement, oil or cream can be added throughout the massage process.

Combination of Facial Massage Oil:

5 ounces virgin coconut oil
1 ounce evening primrose oil
2 ounce rosehip seed oil
5 drops Natural Vitamin E

1/4 teaspoon carrot seed oil or sea buckthorn oil
3 drops rose oil

Steps to follow before Facial Massage:

Have the massage recipient lie on a comfortable mattress or massage table covered by a clean bed sheet. The recipient can also sit in a semi-reclined position to try for more comfort.

Wash the hands in warm water with anti-bacterial soap before giving massage.

Clean the face with a gentle cleanser before massage. Remove dirt or make-up.

Squeeze the massage oil into the palm. Rub hands together until the oil is evenly distributed.

Facial Massage Steps :

Mouth and Chin - Using the index and middle fingers and starting at the chin, gently massage in a circular and upward motion around the mouth and lips. Bring the massage motion to the top of the mouth, under the nostrils. Repeat the process up to 9 times.

Chin - Fatty deposits can add up here. Starting where the right jaw meets the ear, gently grasp the skin between the index and middle fingers and walk them the length of the jaw in a scissor-like motion. Massage back to the starting point using a circular motion. Repeat the process up to 9 times.

Forehead – Using three fingers, start at the forehead by the eyebrows, gently move across the forehead with small circular motions. Repeat the process up to 9 times.

Eyes - Using the middle finger below the eyebrow and index finger above the eyebrow, massage in a gentle sweeping motion from the inner eye area to the outer towards the temples. Repeat the process up to 5 times. To relieve any pressure or tension from sinuses or stress, gently place ring finger in the hollow of the eye, just next to the nose. Press in gently and release 6 times. The skin around your eyes is extremely delicate than the rest of your face. So, it is essential to take care of this part of this part at the time of massage.

Nose - Beginning at the inner hollow of the eyes, massage downwards with the index finger along the sides of the nose. Repeat the process up to 5 times.

Neck and Decolletege - Begin at the back of the neck and massage upward towards the head in circular motions. Repeat the process up to 9 times. Coming around to the front of the neck and using the three massage fingers, massage the neck starting at the collarbone and work your way upwards toward the chin. Repeat the process up to 5 times.

Cheeks to Temples - Starting at the chin and moving upward across the cheeks to the temples, massage in a light manner using the middle and index fingers only. When you reach the temples, massage in a circular motion three times. Repeat the process up to 9 times. Make sure to massage temples.

Ears - Massage in a spiral motion upward using thumb and index fingers. Repeat the process upto 6 times. To finish, slide thumbs from back of ears to jaw line. This will release pressure along the jaw line.
