Whether anyone likes it or not, men are getting more conscious about their looks and hygiene. Some do it for aesthetic reasons. But many sports people have to go for the clean look for professional reasons. Unwanted back hair can be a cause of concern for many men leading to embarrassment and lack of confidence.
As back is quite an inaccessible area, it is difficult to perform hair removal alone.
There are various methods of getting a clean, smooth look on the back. Some of them are
Epilators- This is quite a painful method of getting rid of those unwanted hair. It is a small hand held device which plucks out each hair. It’s quite cheap and easy to use, not so efficient though.
Depilatories- These involve chemical means of getting rid of the hair. These creams, gels or lotions have strong chemicals that dissolve the protein structure of hair. The hair then gets separated from the skin. Depilatories are quite cheap and easy to use. There is not much pain involved and the result is a clean smooth back.
But, as there are strong chemicals involved, they can cause irritation, burns or itching on skin. Re-growth of hair is quite fast and this method is quite messy as well.
Waxing and sugaring- This method of getting hair out of back involves pulling hair out in sections using wax and a thin cloth strip. This method is quite suitable for back as the hair will grow back only after 3-4 weeks. It is also cheaper than most of other techniques. On the other hand, waxing can be very painful and can cause irritation on skin.
Shaving- Using an ordinary razor, one can get rid of the ugly looking hair on the back. There are some new style razors which can be used to reach the middle and lower back which were quite inaccessible before.
Electrolysis- This method involves inserting a needle under the skin. Electric shock is then passed through this needle to the hair follicle hence destroying it. This method provides permanent hair removal. But at the same time, it’s an expensive and time consuming procedure. One must go though several visits before desired results can be obtained. It’s a painful and expensive. It may also cause scars and infection.
Laser- Laser is a single wavelength light which penetrates the skin and is selectively absorbed by the hair follicle hence sending it into dormant phase. This procedure is less painful and less time consuming than most of other methods. As the area of back is large, this method is quite suitable. But this method is quite expensive. It may also cause redness or pigmentation of skin. This pigmentation can be temporary or permanent. You must find out if you are the right candidate for this procedure. Even men with thicker and coarse hair can see significant results with laser hair removal. This method is quite useful for those who find hair on their back annoying and irritating. This method is also considered as a permanent hair removal method.
Treatment of back using laser requires almost 4 sessions. There is interval of 2-4 months between each session.
Laser treatment works best for the people with dark hair and light skin. Though, new techniques are coming which are suitable for any type of hair and skin tone.
