Fashion changes very frequently and the people through out the world are following these changing trends from day to day. And the latest trend is to color the hair in various shades. In the olden days, only people with grey hair used to prefer coloring of hair. But these days, every one irrespective of their age are into this hair coloring craze.

A wide range of expensive hair colors are launched in the market to support this craze. But recent studies have shown that the chemicals used in these hair products are extremely harmful for the health. Apart from that, these hair dyes tend to make the hair dry and brittle. As a result, hair falls off in a course of time.

But the fashion savvy people need not worry as homemade hair dyes can be used to dye the hair. As the name itself suggests, these homemade hair dyes can be prepared at home with the help of the ingredients that are available in the kitchen. These are extremely harmless as they are made from the natural products. And also no extra money is to be spent on them. Though they may not retain the color for a long time, they are generally preferred because of their harmless nature. Hair also remains unaffected with these homemade hair dyes.

Few of the effective homemade hair dying techniques are mentioned below.

For Blonde Hair:

  • Boil one cup of water.
  • To this add 6 chamomile tea bags.
  • Continue boiling for 15 more minutes.
  • Discard the bags after removing from the flame.
  • Let it cool down.
  • To this add half cup of plain yoghurt.
  • Also add 7 drops of lavender oil.
  • Mix well to form a thick paste.
  • Now apply this paste through out the hair from the roots to the end.
  • Do not apply this paste on a wet hair.
  • After applying, use a plastic wrap to cover the head.
  • Let is stay for half an hour.
  • After 30 minutes, wash the hair gently with a mild shampoo.
  • Use once in a week to get the desired shade.

For Brunette hair:

  • Prepare a triple strength black coffee and set it aside to cool down.
  • Wash the hair with a mild shampoo.
  • Take a large bowl and place it on the basin.
  • Now, rinse the hair with the cooled black coffee.
  • Use the coffee collected in the bowl for the next rinse.
  • Continue this procedure for several times.
  • After the final rinse, leave the hair for 15 minutes without disturbing.
  • Then give a final wash with the clear water.

For Red Hair:

  • Take about half cup of beetroot juice in a bowl.
  • To this add about another half cup of carrot juice.
  • Mix both the ingredients thoroughly.
  • Damp the hair with clear water.
  • Now pour this juice on the dampened hair.
  • Use a plastic wrap to cover the hair.
  • Now dip a towel in the hot water and wrap it on the plastic wrap.
  • This helps in binding the color to the hair strands.
  • You can also sit under a medium dryer heat or in the sun for an hour.
  • Then, use a mild shampoo to wash the hair.
  • Use once in a week to get the desired shade.

For Brown or golden brown hair:

  • Take desired amounts of henna in a bowl.
  • To this add water or coffee or tea decoction to make a paste.
  • Let it stay overnight.
  • Next day before use, add one large teaspoon of yoghurt and a teaspoon of lemon juice to it.
  • You can also add egg white to it. This helps in adding the shine to the hair.
  • Mix all the ingredients thoroughly to make a fine paste.
  • Now apply this paste on the hair from the roots to the tip.
  • After applying use a plastic cover to wrap the hair.
  • Let it stay for about more then an hour. You can also leave it overnight for a rich color
  • Then, use a mild shampoo to wash it off.
  • Apart form dying the hair, henna also acts as a good conditioner.
