All of us want to have healthy, radiant and glowing skin. Some people are blessed with good features but they face problem with the skin texture. Most of us try different cosmetic products available in the market to get a glowing skin. Some people also go through various skin treatments that most of the beauty clinics offer.

There are many astringents in the market to get a glowing skin, but they are too expensive and sometimes they are not suitable for your skin type. There are, however, some home made astringent lotions which can be easily made at home and are very cost effective as well.

Purpose of Astringents

Astringents are basically used to tighten the skin and remove excess oil from your skin. Most gentle and effective skin astringents are some natural ingredients like green tea, witch hazel, sage oil, avocado oil.

Types of Astringents

Astringent lotions are antiseptic lotions which help closing pores, stop bleeding and remove the trace of grease from your skin. Various types of Astringent Lotions and their ingredients are mentioned below-

Rosemary Astringent Lotion

Ingredients:

2 tablespoon of rosemary powder

1 tablespoon of orange peels

2 tablespoon of lemon peels

½ tablespoon of sodium benzoate

¼ brandy

30 mint leaves

One cup of rose water

Method: Soak lemon peels, orange peels, mint leaves for one hour in one cup of boiling rose water. Make a lotion by mixing all of them. Store it in a bottle and you can refrigerate so that you can use it for a long time.

Soft Skin Lotion

Ingredients:

One cup of dried chamomile and milk each

4 tablespoon of honey

8 teaspoons of wheat germ

Method: Steep chamomile in milk. Keep it for a day and strain. To this mixture, add honey and wheat germ and blend. This lotion is now ready for use. Store this lotion in an air-tight bottle.

Lemon Astringent

Ingredients:

4 teaspoon of lemon juice

8 teaspoon of witch hazel

2 teaspoon of alcohol

½ teaspoon of peppermint extract

Method: Mix all ingredients as shown above. Strain the mixture and then pour it into an air-tight large bottle. This lotion is best for greasy skin.

Sage Astringent Lotion

4 tablespoons of dried sage

3 tablespoons of witch hazel

4 tablespoons vodka

¼ teaspoon of borax

Cucumber Astringent

1 peeled and mashed cucumber

3 tablespoons Rose-water

2 tablespoons Eau-de-cologne

1 tablespoons Glycerin

Method: Mash the cucumber and add rose water, eau-de-cologne, and glycerin and mix well. Strain this mixture and now its ready for use.

Rose Water and Glycerin Astringent

Ingredients:

½ pint olive oil

1 ounce rose water

Few drops of glycerin

1 ounce vodka

Method: Mix all the ingredients and apply with a clean cotton ball.

Lemon Orange Astringent

Ingredients:

½ thinly sliced lemon

½ thinly sliced orange

¾ cup ethanol alcohol

Method: Combine orange, lemon and alcohol. Blend them in a blender until the fruits are pulverized. Strain liquid in a jar with a strainer or with the help of a cheesecloth. It refreshes your skin and removes excess oil from your skin.

Some Other Effective Astringents

Strawberry: Mashed strawberries prove to be one of the best astringents and cleansing face mask.
