What is a hair conditioner?

Since the type & condition of hair vary from person to person, a conditioner & its utilities cannot be common for all of them. Some of them need a rich & moisturizing conditioner due to their dry and frizzy hair, likewise, if someone has normal hair, there are conditioners designed for such hair, people opt for a conditioner which adds volume to their already weak & thin hair. Of course there are various products available in the market for colored, perm, dry & other types of hair. Conditioners do help in giving your hair a shinier look & also keeps it tangle free.

Why is Natural Hair Conditioner more preferred?

People tend to be biased towards natural hair conditioners because they know that such natural products, be it plants, herb extracts etc. would be devoid of harmful chemicals, insecticides etc. Some products even have silicon compounds present in them, due to which after conditioning, it appears as if it has just coated the hair artificially, also leaving the scalp with extra buildup & residue. Another form of natural products are the organic ones, they are comparatively less expensive. Many of the extracts churned out of food pulps contain their own natural oil which has in built properties to benefit the hair in keeping it soft & supple. Conditioners made at home are more reliable than the ones found in the market as they are free from preservatives and chemicals, which at times, can do more harm than good to your beautiful hair.

Natural Hair Conditioners made out of commonly found ingredients

Recommended ingredients for a natural hair conditioner, a mixture of mayonnaise and avocado (minus the pit) should be applied throughout the scalp & the hair, giving the tip of the hairs a generous helping. Another good natural conditioner is adding 1 avocado + coconut milk, mixing it & applying it with clawed fingers from the hair tip till the end.  One can also add warm beer mixed with jojoba oil and gently massage throughout the scalp & hair. Treating the hair with avocado oil + olive oil (both can be found over the shelf of the kitchen cabinet), promotes in strengthening and softening the hair. Another easily accessible natural hair conditioner is a hair mask made out of yogurt. For a natural sheen & keeping the hair silky, boiled & strained nettle tops can be applied to the hair & scalp in the night. Honey is also a very good natural hair conditioner, when mixed & applied with olive oil & egg yolk, gives the hair a natural sheen & glossy feel. Olive oil when mixed with boiling water & applied, serves as a deep conditioner. Rosemary oil applied evenly on scalp, works as a good conditioner. A spoonful of vinegar when added will see to it the excess of unwanted residue deposited is removed.  Application of the mixture of an egg and yogurt is considered to be a good protein conditioner.

Points to ponder while using a Natural Hair Conditioner

Some people have a blind faith in natural products. When they buy commercially available natural products, what they fail to notice is that chances are there that synthetics are added to some of the ingredients. Because of the competitive market there is no guarantee about the authenticity in composition of some of the natural products today. They might have chemical additives. For e.g.: One cannot be sure that a can of olive oil is 100% pure, as it might contain some chemicals in the preservatives for longevity’s sake. If you are perturbed by this fact, it is advisable to make your own products at home using fresh natural ingredients. If you are comfortable using any particular natural hair conditioner, it is recommended that the hair should not be over washed else there is a danger of depriving the hair of its natural oils, making it drier. Side-effects may also arise, for e.g. such natural products may actually work negatively for people having a sensitive scalp. A person may get a horrible allergy after applying it for the first time. So it’s always better to get suggestions from your doctor/healthcare advisor even if it’s about going the natural way!!
