Eyebrows are a very important focal point of your face, though their importance may often be over-looked. Properly shaped eyebrows play a big part in having beautiful eyes, and in brightening and softening your face. Eyebrow tweezing is an effective way for removing the stray hair from the eyebrow area but it can be painful. One should never tweeze the hair on the upper lip or chin or those on a pigmented mole. Tweezing is not recommended for those who want to remove massive amount of hair. Tweezing hair growing from pigmented moles can cause these moles to turn cancerous. Tweezing removes hair from the roots which can assure longer growth time.

It is essential to use a good quality pair of tweezers as an inferior one could break off hairs or tweeze your skin along with the hair.

Tips for Eyebrow Tweezing

· To minimize the pain, numb the eyebrow area first either with a baby\'s teething pain preparation or numbing toothache preparation or even a little ice.
· The hair can be softened by using a hair conditioner or shaving cream.
· Steam your eyebrows with a hot washcloth for five minutes or tweeze right after a hot shower to open the pores so the hair comes out more easily.
· Invest in a professional pair of tweezers so you have a clean, sharp pair each time. If you are serious about tweezing, buying a good quality pair is essential.
· Use natural light wherever possible otherwise make sure that the area where you are tweezing your eyebrows is well lit.
· First clean up the area between the eyebrows by plucking any stray hair.
· Pull the skin taut and remove hair as close as possible to the root.
· Pluck in the direction of the growth.
· Shape your eyebrows by plucking from underneath rather than from above to create a natural arch.
· To close the pores of the skin after plucking, use an astringent or soothe irritated skin by applying warm petroleum jelly.
· Tweezers should also be given proper care like razors because they come in contact with open pores.

Steps for Shaping Your Eyebrows

1. First thin the eyebrow and then slowly define the arch. The arch should reach the highest point above the middle of the iris.
2. To determine where the eyebrows should begin and end, hold a pencil vertically against the nose. Where the pencil meets the eyebrow above the nose should be the starting point.
3. Next, with the pencil still held against the nose, tilt it diagonally so that it rests against the far corner of the eye. That is the outer point where the eyebrow should end.

What to Remember When Changing the Shape of Your Eyebrows?

· Use a white eyeliner pencil to color in the areas under your eyebrows which you think should be plucked. This will help you to avoid tweezing into a shape you later regret.
· If you don\'t like the shape, remove the white eyeliner and redraw. Once you are satisfied with the shape, tweeze the hairs in the white area.

Benefits of Tweezing Eyebrows

A benefit of tweezing eyebrows is that, if tweezing is done in the right manner, it does not damage the skin and like threading gets rid of stray hair for two to four weeks. It can be used effectively to remove individual hair i.e. eyebrow tweezing, facial hair tweezing.
Rubbing some ice over the area that you plan to pluck before you start may help to slightly numb the site, making it less painful. It lasts long enough. This can be used for stray hair, a thing a razor cannot do.

Disadvantages of Tweezing Eyebrows

- Frequent tweezing of hair can cause the skin to discolor and it can also cause scars on the target area.

- It can lead to infection of the hair follicles and enlarged pores.

- The possibility of ingrown hairs is also higher when the hair is tweezed since the hair is removed from the roots.

- Tweezing is painful when pulling hair out.

- It is time-consuming as it involves removing hair individually.

- Hair tweezers should always be kept sterile and clean in order to avoid infection.
