Whether or not you have well shaped eyebrows, it is important to groom them once in a while. In case your eyebrows are naturally well shaped then you would just have to spend some time occasionally to keep them maintained. There are various techniques to shape your eyebrows and eyebrow plucking is one of them.

How to Pluck Eyebrows

Stand at least three feet away from the mirror so that you have a full, clear perspective of your facial features. By taking a distant look at your face, you'll be able to understand better what needs to be done so that your brows will fully complement your face. Then follow the following simple steps:

· Find a shape that suits your face, and stick with it, you should not try and experiment with changing fashion fads.
· The inside edge of your eyebrow should align with the inner corner of your eye.
· The arch of your eyebrow should follow the curve of your upper eyeline.
· The easiest way to find how long your eyebrow should be is to imagine the under-eye line continued to where it would meet with the eyebrow.

Eyebrow Plucking Tips

· Before plucking use a toothbrush, old mascara wand or eyebrow brush to get your brow into its natural shape.
· Hold a warm flannel over your brow or wash your face with warm water to make it easier to pull the hairs.
· Choose a tweezer which has a sharp, pointy head and make sure that it pinches closed tightly. Without a tight grip, the tweezer will never be very effective grabbing unwanted hair. A poor quality tweezer may cause hair to break and can cause infection.
· Pluck hairs in the direction that they grow. Doing so will keep the hairs smooth and will hurt less.
· Never pluck your eyebrows after you have applied lotion to your face. The skin and the brow will be very porous and a slick brow does not make for controlled tweezing.
· Do a single hair at a time. Grip the hair firmly and pull it in the direction in which it grows.
· First take out any stray hairs in the middle bit above your nose. It will help you get used to the feeling of plucking the hair because it is usually less sensitive here than above the eyes.
· If it really hurts, apply a little teething gel to the area a few minutes before you start. This will numb the skin.
· After plucking a few hairs, always stop to look at what you have done. You may be over-plucking and you might not even realize it. Stopping to access your plucking progress will help measure your results and prevent over-plucking.
· Check if both the brows are balanced and use a cold flannel to reduce redness.

Seeking Professional Advice

It is always advisable to take the help or advice of a beautician's if possible and get your brows plucked. It does not cost much and takes very less time. Eyebrow plucking is an art and requires skill, patience and creativity. To do it yourself, you need good vision, the perfect tools and a sense of symmetry. Finding your eyebrow style is important, but learning how to create it is difficult.

It is important to access your hair type for getting the right shape as working with your brow type is easier than fighting nature. If your brows are thin or sparse, try to maximize the number of hair by plucking very selectively. Only remove stray hair under the natural arch of the brow. You should move in the direction from the nose to the ear. For eyebrow hair that is course and unruly, you may consider seeking out the help of a professional who can either wax or pluck your way to ideal brows. Thick brows can seem unmanageable and it's best to pluck the stray hairs under the brow first. Then start at the thickest part of the brow and tweeze particularly curly or course hairs. Work towards your desired shape and take caution not to over-pluck. To smooth and tame thick brows, apply a dab of hair gel and style.
