Aromatherapy Oil Burner - Tips to how to Use it     Bookmark and Share

An aromatherapy oil burner is a dispenser which is used to dispense essential oil into a room or space. Aromatherapy has been used since ancient times to calm, heal and relieve stress. Aromatherapy induces relief through its effect on the olfactory nerves and their various effects on the brain. There are various ways in which you can effectively use aromatherapy. Some of these are incense sticks, bath cubes, bath salts and aromatherapy oil to name a few. All of the products are used differently and serve different purposes.

* Incense sticks are used by lighting them. These burn slowly and the scent fills the space where these are lit.
* Bath cubes and bath salts are used while having a bath. These are dropped in the bath water which releases the healing aroma and also fills the bath water with the healing qualities of the aromatherapy oil.
* Oil can be used in more than one way. A massage with an aromatherapy oil is one way which makes the oil seep into the pores of the skin and also provides benefit by filling the space around you with the beneficial aroma. Essential oils can also be used by using an aromatherapy oil burner with which one heats up the oil so it evaporates and by doing so releases the scent throughout the room or space. These burners are very effective due to the live flame under the oil which makes it disperse quickly.

How Does Vaporizing Help?

When an essential oil is vaporized, the tiny molecules of the oil are dispersed into the air.
When these molecules are inhaled they stimulate the odor receptors that are situated at the base of the nose. These odor receptors are directly connected to a part of the brain that is called the Limbic system. This Limbic system controls memory, moods and emotions.

These oils when vaporized also stop the spread of germs and purify the air we breathe, which helps in preventing the spread of colds and flu from one family member to another. Vaporizing is also helpful in getting rid of unpleasant smells.

A Word about Oils

A few people maybe sensitive to different scents and a few oils can irritate some sensitive skin.
Some of the oils that have been known to cause adverse reactions are:

* Eucalyptus
* Ginger
* Thyme
* Black pepper
* Clove
* Oregano
* Lemongrass
* Citrus oils

People with high blood pressure should avoid the use of the following oils:

* Hyssop
* Rosemary
* Sage
* Thyme

Some very popular oils and their usage:

* Peppermint Oil helps in getting relief from digestive disorders
* Sandalwood Oil relaxes and relieves tension and anxiety
* Tea tree Oil is helpful in respiratory problems
* Lavender Oil cures insomnia

How to use an Aromatherapy Oil Burner?

Fill the bowl with water. To the water, add 5 to 15 drops of essential oil or any aromatherapy blend, heat it with tea light. The amount of oil required will depend on the size of the room where it is being used. Essential Oils evaporate, spreading their aroma around the room so you need to add more oil after some time to maintain the effect. Oils such as Citrus and Peppermint evaporate quickly.

Helpful Tips

- The aromatherapy oil burner is a quick and effective way to disperse the essence in any given place, however, it is important to remember that some of these oils have very strong scents. You should use them in a small amount before you start using them in a full blown way.

- These oils are recommended for external use only. These should never be drunk. Also, do not let them come in contact with the eyes or mouth. In case this happens, contact the doctor right away for emergency help.

- Aromatherapy is intended mostly to release stress and bring you in touch with nature\'s natural ways to heal.
