Aromatherapy School For Educating The Senses     Bookmark and Share

If you are a doctor, a medical health provider, a spa professional or are just looking for a different career option, you can consider attending an aromatherapy school. Though these courses are accredited unofficially they will educate you in the many different types of aromatherapy, essential oils and the benefits it can offer you and your clients.

However, there are certain facts that one should keep in mind while making a decision about attending an aromatherapy school.

Aromatherapy is a Natural Healing Process

Aromatherapy is a practice based on the use of natural oils extracted from plants and plant parts that help in rejuvenating mind and body. The oils can be used by inhalation or direct application to the skin which provides mental and physical relief. Essential oils can be used independently or mixed together to form a healing blend of fragrances.

Requirements

Aromatherapy curriculum is not accredited, hence, even after attending an aromatherapy school you will not get a license. However, most of these courses offer diplomas or certificates upon completion of the course. The course duration might vary from 12 to 100 hours of coursework to achieve the certification. Depending on the course duration, curriculum and the kind of certification or diploma the course cost also varies.

Curriculum

Basic teaching in all aromatherapy schools focuses primarily on the following:

- What is Aromatherapy?

- What are Essential Oils?

- How do they work on the body and the mind?

- How can these oils be used safely?

The course will also teach students the benefit and effects of aromatherapy and the different ways of using essential oils. They will also teach you various ways to blend oils, how different oils have different effects both physically and mentally.

Be it a doctor, health store owner, or masseuse, all can benefit by taking a course at a nearby aromatherapy school.

Advanced levels of study will teach you about production of oils, oil chemistry, advanced knowledge of effects of oils on the body & mind, the effect of oil on memory, mood and emotion, advanced treatment methods and applications, the science of blending oils, safety and toxicity information and additional bio-specificities of various oils and their medicinal and traditional uses.

The decision about aromatherapy school that you want to attend should be based on the educational philosophy of the school and your requirements from the course. Different schools focus on different aspects of aromatherapy, some schools also teach you about the use of aromatherapy as a supplement or a complement to other health disciplines. Therefore, it is important to obtain complete information about the coursework and the focus area before you join an aromatherapy school.

Many aromatherapy schools are of an opinion that aromatherapy is a science and should only be practiced in a professional manner by aromatherapy school graduates.

Aromatherapy School for Teaching Massage.

There are aromatherapy schools that focus entirely on teaching aromatherapy massage as a way of healing. A massage uses the sense of smell to help facilitate a positive change when a person is feeling ill. Aromatherapy schools teach students which oils to use for different purposes and to cure different ailments.

Does Aromatherapy Provide Only Stress Relief?

There is vast difference of opinion on the effectiveness and benefits from aromatherapy. A few doctors agree that some patients may have been helped by an aromatherapy treatment. However, as per them, it is only because aromatherapy helped to ease their stress. Stress does create a number of illness's and when stress is relieved, illness is often relieved as well.

The non advocates of aromatherapy believe that it is not as successful as the traditional medicine when it comes to cure serious illness. This is the reason why aromatherapy is still not popular with the public at large. They disapprove of aromatherapy schools as they say there are no real facts and studies to prove that aromatherapy actually works and as per them, aromatherapy school graduates have learned nothing more than stress relief.

While many doctors don\'t agree but there are lots of aromatherapy teachers who do believe in the efficacy of aromatherapy and there are lots of potential students applying to get into an aromatherapy school.
