Benefits of Aromatherapy

Buying candles does not seem to be a task that involves much thinking or planning, however, for someone who is fond of aromatherapy and candles, it can be a decision worth pondering about. Aromatherapy can be included in your daily life in various ways. You may directly burn essential oils on an oil burner to allow the beneficial scent to travel around the room or you may simply use aromatherapy scented candles.

Are Aromatherapy Scented Candles Different From Scented Candles?

There is a difference between normal scented candles and aromatherapy scented candles. There are a few candles that are sold as aromatherapy candles but these aren\'t actually aromatherapy candles… confused? These candles are scented and have a smell similar to aromatherapy candles but the difference lies in the fact that these candles are not perfumed with natural botanical products. Actual aromatherapy candles are scented with essential oils that are extracted from plants or some parts of the plant.

You might think what is the big deal as long as it smells the same? What difference does it make? What it\'s scented with? The reason is that aromatherapy scented candles provides therapeutic benefits because of the essential oils in it and are healthier to burn than other types.

Aromatherapy is not just about good smell but is about the medicinal properties associated with it. Essential oils that are used in an aromatherapy scented candle have healing physical and psychological effects when they are breathed in. It\'s not the scent that is doing the healing but the botanical oils that create the scent.

Also, when you burn candles, you breathe in whatever creates the scent. In regular candles, a chemical substance is responsible for the scent, so you end up breathing the chemical.

Avoid Candles with Paraffin

Paraffin candles that are most common should be avoided. Paraffin is a petroleum product and when these candles are burnt, they produce an oily, sooty smoke that is harmful to breathe. Paraffin and essential oils make a combination that is all the more harmful as the essential oils break the paraffin down, making it even sootier.

Do not worry, you can still enjoy the ambience and healing effects of an aromatherapy scented candle without suffering the ill effects of the soot. Candles made of beeswax, soy or vegetable oil burn smoke free. Make sure the wicks are wireless and lead free too.
Make sure that you remember the following when choosing and using an aromatherapy scented candle:

* It should be made with 100% essential oils.
* It is made of beeswax, soy or vegetable oil.
* The candle has a paper or cotton (wireless) wick.
* Candles should be kept away from upholstery, pets and children.
* These should be used very carefully when burnt.

These candles would not be available at the neighborhood grocery store, but they are easily available at home interior stores and on online shopping sites. The aromatherapy scented candle made of soy or beeswax are expensive but these last longer, are less polluting and have better health benefits.
