Aromatherapy and the field of aromatherapy oil are relatively young fields of study and research, hence, the information available about them is still hazy and relatively less. However, ancient literature of Chinese, Egyptian, Roman, Indian civilizations suggests that aromatherapy has been practiced for centuries with the belief that aromatherapy oils can be effective in treating illness and disability, which is supported by a number of successful studies Though this field is gaining popularity, many still regard it as a hippie science or junk science. The study of smell and the myriad effects of these smells on the human brain and physical well being have been proven beyond doubt.

What are Aromatherapy Oils?

Aromatherapy Oils are extracted from plants and their parts like the leaves, roots, flowers, twigs, buds, rhizomes, bark, heartwood, seeds, fruits, and resins. Undiluted aromatherapy oils are highly concentrated and powerful and are generally not used undiluted. When aromatherapy oils are burnt, the aromas from the oil fill the air with a scent that its healing properties are inhaled by the participant. The aromatic properties of the aromatherapy oils come from certain organs of the plants and these are a by-product of the plant.

As per various studies, each aromatherapy oil has its unique blueprint. When this blueprint interacts with the energy of the sun, air, soil, and water the unique fragrance and the healing quality of oil are formed. The variety of such oil is huge and research is on to try and discover different combinations of aromas that can be used for various healing purposes. This is a fresh and exciting field of research.

Similar species of plants are known to produce oils which have different healing properties. This is due to that fact that the plant may be grown in different conditions (damp or dry earth, at low or high altitude, or even in cold and hot climates). As per the International Organization for Standardization, aromatherapy oils are products made by distillation with either steam or water or by way of mechanical processing of citrus rinds or even by dry distillation of natural materials. As per them, it is after the distillation that the aromatherapy oil is physically alienated from the water phase.

Aromatherapy Oils and Vegetable Oils

The aromatherapy oils unlike the vegetable oils which are extracted from nuts and seeds are not actually oily. These oils vary in consistency; some oils are viscous, while others maybe fairly solid and some maybe watery. As per an estimate, there are about 3000 varying aromatherapy oils worldwide, out of which, only about 300 are used. They are the most concentrated form of botanical product and provide a concentrated dose of the nature’s vast pharmacological ingredients in just a single drop of aromatherapy oil. As per an estimate, one drop of aromatherapy oil is produced from a pound of the concerned plant.

Smells of Success

Aromatherapy oils are doing a prosperous business despite the fact that there are a few people who are not convinced with the healing qualities of these oils. This is the precise reason why it can be a very lucrative field to get into and do some research and establish it as a successful business. To make aromatherapy a successful business opportunity, it is important to have biochemical degree so that you have the requisite knowledge and base to understand the oils and their properties well.

This also ensures that you are able to impart the right information to people without confusing them with unnecessary biological and technical information. Today be it curious beginners, seasoned aroma therapists or spa owners, everybody is looking for authentic and relevant information on the use of aromatherapy oils. There is a huge demand and supply gap on the information that can make the use of aromatherapy oils beneficial and meaningful.

Often the lack of authentic and readily available information makes people flee from things like aromatherapy because it is too "fringe" or too weird, suggesting that it may not be as valid as other more traditional sensibilities. The ability to be able to provide rational information of your product will help you with not only the sales but will also establish the credibility of the business and make it approachable for the common people.
